Out about a Closet
Out about a Closet
My landlady has promised to build me a respectable closet since October when she raised our rent. I currently have one of those old timey jobs that was built when people had a shoulder width of about 12 inches. I had finally given up on the thought that I would actually get a real closet until last Friday. Olympia the landlady came up and said she had finally found a carpenter who would do the job. That had been the hold up; finding a carpenter. Not only was I getting a wall to wall closet, I was also getting a real doorway. They would close up the opening I have now (Instead of a door I have an accordian kind of screen thing that opens into the living room.) and build a doorway complete with door from scratch in the hallway. The workpeople would come on Monday and most likely finish by Wednesday. Woohoo! Sunday night I dutifully removed everything from my bedroom as well as all wall hangings on the bedroom-side wall of the living room. I went to sleep that night dreaming of a future with a brilliant room complete with beautiful closet and door which I could make my own. Maybe Jersey isn't so bad after all. Monday rolls around and no carpenter. He called Olympia in the afternoon after she left numerous messages. He was held up on another job. It would be Wednesday before he got to my brilliant closet. I was a little disappointed but I remained undaunted. So what if everything that belongs in the bedroom is stuffed into the living room? I could stick it out. I was getting a closet. Wednesday arrives in no time. Still no carpenter and this time he's not returning Olympia's calls. As of today she has not heard from the carpenter since Monday afternoon and my stuff is STILL crowding the living room. I am now daunted. To top it off, everytime I try to get info from Olympia she goes into this huge diatribe about how frustrated she is about the whole situation. It's like I am the landlord and she is the tenant complaining to me. I think she's been had. She wrote a healthy deposit check and the guy split and I am left with a bunch of stuff in my living room and no closet and no door. PPPPPLLLLLBBBB!
