Crusade against Litter A

Crusade against Litter
A few weeks ago I was walking underneath one of those construction platforms on 8th avenue in the 40s. I saw a man in front of me drop some sort of paper or something. I picked it up and ran up to him to give it to him. He told me it was alright it was just trash. I was incensed. I watched him walk away and decided I would throw it away myself. Not 10 yards in front of us, on the corner was a half-empty trash can. On instinct I jogged past him, tapped him on the shoulder and said, "Look, I am going to show you how easy this really is." As he watched I threw the offending leaflet in the garbage and walked on into the masses. I hope that man was suitably ashamed of himself. Really despicable!

Not true! They always keep the shells laying around after shooting litterers.

Meredith, if you were in Texas that man probably would have taken his six-shooter out and gunned you down. But then things (littering) like that do not happen in Texas.

Gum is my pet peeve. Working in Rockefeller Center means the sidewalks are beautiful slate and people still have the b@lls to spit out gum. Countless times I've seen people angry with melted gum stuck to their nice shoes and the Rock Center employees using the scraping tool in the blazing heat trying to remove any evidence of someone else's laziness. Argh!

I honked at a smoker throwing his cigarette butt out the window just yesterday. I didn't know you did that too!

Sometimes I honk furiously at the @$$holes that throw their cigarette butts out the windows. What can be done to get people to realize that my world is not their ashtrey?

yeah. I am kind of lucky I didn't get beat up. But it was the middle of the day, and this is my city too dammit. Have some respect.

Dang, that takes some guts, especially in NYC! I applaud you on shaming the litterer, though. It bugs me whenever I see someone litter like that, especially when there are convenient trash cans around. Austin is actually pretty good about that, but there are always some people that were not brought up properly.
