Roberta Gets Flack
I went on a date with a guy who works at a well known Blues club franchise. I'll call him Joe Green, although a pseudonym is probably not necessary since I don't think I will choose to see him again. That's a long boring story. Suffice it to say that to a degree he got alot of dating things right. He mailed me a St. Paddy's day card. Sweet. He gave me flowers at the Oscar party. Verrrry Nice. But he got too clingy too soon and without checking to see if I felt clingy too. I felt like he was having a relationship with me in his own mind and the in-the-flesh me was just set dressing. There were a couple of other aspects of the date that just felt a little weird.
He does know how to show a girl a good time in the events department. He invited me to meet him at said Blues Bar to have dinner and a show. We sat in the VIP section with great seats for Roberta Flack's concert. Roberta sounds as sultry and smooth and distinctive as ever. Vocally she hasn't missed a beat. She is however an idiot in my book and I would have walked out of Franchise Blues Bar in a really bad mood if I had actually paid for a ticket. Despite shouts from the audience of "Killing Me Softly" and "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face!!!", the lady refused to sing either and didn't even give the blues hungry crowd an encore. As far as I am concerned, Franchise Blues Bar should dock her pay. Shameful really. I am all for artists doing new things and "growing and learning" but come on!!! She couldn't have spent 5 minutes on two of the three songs that people spent $45 per seat to see her sing?
Ridiculous.
