Prayers for a Song

Tonight while vegging out in front of the TV, I happened to catch the tags for the local news on NBC. A young aspiring actress was shot in the face by her jealous ex-boyfriend who then fatally shot himself. Sad news at anytime to be sure, but then they showed her picture and name. She is a recent Yale grad and her career was just beginning to take off. Lyric Benson was the waitress who waited on me and my partners the weekend we got together to write our Tex in the City operating agreement. She fed us pizza after a long day and picked our brain a bit about New York City, starting a production company and the like. We were awestruck over her impending graduation from the mecca of acting schools. She was jazzed about moving to New York and making her way in the big city. She and the aforementioned boyfriend came to one of our events at Serena. There is even a picture of the two of them...in better days. So now the ex is dead and Lyric is critical. If you get a moment, say a prayer of well wishes and healing for her.

Nobody deserves what she got.

Lyric died on Friday morning. Just to clear up any confusion..she was not the same Lyric Benson fathered by Robby. There was a picture of Lyric and Bobby in the NY Post on Saturday. What can one say about events like this? Not much that would salve the wounds of those left behind. Yet still we try to come up with that something; that little nugget of wisdom that might for a fleeting second make the pain less full. In the end when things like this happen, things so utterly void of reason and hope, I have an overwhelming urge to panic. To do nothing but run back and forth like Chicken Little.

"The sky is falling."

The sky is falling.

I don't know how old this thing is and if people still read this but I just have to put something. I go to the school where lyrics dad teaches and it is all such a sad story. He was my softball coach the year before this happened and he was such a cool guy. After her death he was completely changed and it was so sad. But he keeps her memory going with his organ donor presentatinos and the Lyric scholarship given out this year to a boy at our school. there is also a website for her its lyricsoflife.org

Obviously her ex-boyfriend was a total f#$king loser. Such a selfish mofo to take her life and not have the nerve to be tried by a jury. I have no sympathy for jerks like him. He should of sought psychiatric help. Or better yet just shot himself he'd of left the world no poorer.

it isn't Robby Benson's daughter. Robbie Benson's daughter is alive and well - also named Lyric - i go to school with her

Okay some who visit this site may ask why she is in my head at this time, well i saw a tv piece on her death and she has stayed with me ever since. her story inspired a script i'm writting about people meeting the wrong people and i think she's hanging around to see how it turns out. recently her spirit is very strong...like now ( see date of entry) and i can't figure out what this is all about. anyhow i just hope we can stop talking about her death and those details and start talking about her life..who is she? I'll revisit this site in a few days and see if anyone can tell me anything.

We lost a valuble piece of the jigsaw but now it has become clear the purpose of this loss or at least the only good development is that people will start to consider organ doner commitments. by the way her heart still beats and her spirit still soars.

What a really nice human being, young lady, who was
going her potential to no end, and becoming a caring
person, as seen in her interest learning about Morocco, and to be cut in her prime by an already dead person who was materialistic, but not spiritual as Lyric Benson surely was. I am compiling everything I find on the Internet into one text so that my daughter may find one model to look up to as a true innocent in this world of constant strife. Lyric, I knew you not, yet I feel your spirit within and I WILL SPEAK YOUR NAME so often that you will go on, as a friend of mine died in the skies following his dream, like you. LOVE BE WITH YOU LYRIC BENSON, my adopted guardian angel. Ricardo Sawyer

The Kansas City paper had sad, article about Lyric Benson. She lived in KC until she was about 13 when her mother took a job in Morocco. What a waste of a lovely person and how sad that the boyfriend couldn't see beyond his immediate emotions.

I linked to this entry about Lyric in my latest entry. I think they are lovely words for someone taken from life so unjustly.

That is indeed very sad. I just spoke on a panel that included a domestic abuse victim, and had spoken on one previously that included a different person who was also a victim of domestic abuse, and it is just a different world people like that inhabit. Very heartbreaking, thinking not only of people trapped in that situation (the victims) but also of those who have so much dead inside themselves that they are capable of committing such abuse.

This is very sad.
