An open letter to CBS
Well, it seems that CBS is poo-pooing MoveOn.org's ad for the SuperBowl. MoveOn has the money; it has the ads, but CBS thinks it's more important to sell beer and potato chips. Here is my response to CBS' decision.
If you don't accept the good money of the hundreds of thousands of
voters who donated to run this ad, I will have no problem boycotting CBS
indefinitely. I am a young woman who takes censorship seriously. I
have alot of years to not watch CBS.
CSI: Miami is not so engaging that watching it is worth this blatant display
of censorship and a loss of American freedoms. The air waves are public domain.
The last CBS show I watch will be this year's SuperBowl unless I see
that MoveOn ad.
Sincerely,
A TEXAN, living in New Jersey

I just got an email from MoveOn. Apparently they are selling a dvd of all entries recieved for a minimum $30 donation to their Voter's Fund. I'm tempted to get it...since I didn't have much of a chance to see them during the contest, I'm very interested in seeing the ones that didn't make the finals. Also, the money goes to helping getting the winning spot and some of the runner's up on the air.

Too late! The org.org domain is already taken (some weird collection of photographs). And MoveOnMoveOn.com has already been nabbed by some right wingers.
Patrick is correct that the press is not required to air any specific commercial. CBS's excuse about not running issue adds is totally lame, of course, but MoveOn.org doesn't have a "right" to air the ad. Still, things like this showcase the problems with media consolidation.

MoveOn.org should Move on.
In fact I think I will make a website. MoveOnMoveOn.org.org.

The ad is not offensive. And it is not a lie! So please explain to me the rational CBS is using to not air this ad (to Patrick F.) It appears to me that CBS feels their bread is being buttered by the current administration. In which case, how can one trust their news reporting? I am confused, please unconfuse me.

The freedom of the press extends to those who own or operate that press. In this case, CBS.
As a former media person, I understand the situation CBS is in.
