I think I need
I think I need a Time Out
On page 77 of this week's Time Out New York under Wednesday, June 5 in the Clubs section there is a blurb about Tex in the City's party! This is a free listing in the "things to do" section of the weekly magazine. It's so cool to see our name in somebody else's section. Kudos go to my partner, Kambri, who has dutifully submitted our info for the last three parties. There's truth to our logo. "The Start of something Big!"

What a Guy Tonight I
What a Guy
Tonight I am taking a train to Bridgeport, CT to see Guy Forsyth play at someplace called the Acoustic Cafe. What an adventure!! I am really looking forward to hearing Guy especially since I was too exhausted to see him the Saturday I was in Austin a few weeks ago. My friend and partner, Greg is coming too. It should be fun....

Twice in One Week I
Twice in One Week
I saw The Elephant Man yesterday. My lovely friend Bill Cannon got me a ticket. We were on the third row, center aisle. The seats were great and the play was brilliant in a way that I truly still need a moment to absorb all of the things I thought and felt within the space of those two hours. More on E-Man later. After the show I realized I had a rather flimsy excuse to encourage Bill to take me backstage. He knows one of the costumers for the show and I was thinking she could design my MOH dress or at least suggest someone who might be interested. So we went back stage. The way the buildings were set up we ended up going into the behind-the-seens enclave of Edward Albee's The Goat (running next door) and the ever-playing Phantom of the Opera. It was magical to be back there I tell you. Suddenly we were stage left in The Elephant Man's theatre. Literally on stage left. Out of the corner of my right eye I caught a glimpse of someone loping down the stairs in the carefree, jovial manner of a man who just finished a show, who wanted to breathe a little before the next curtain that night at 8:00. It was the show's Tony-nominated star, Billy Crudup. Oddly, this was the second time this week our paths have crossed. Last Saturday night I noticed him outside of Joe Allen's with his girlfriend Mary Louise Parker.
To find this particular costumer we had to cross the stage. So there on that sunny afternoon, a blissful day in May, I crossed my first broadway stage. It was electric. If it felt this good after the show that I wasn't in, imagine how it will be when I have a more concrete reason to be there. It smelled heavenly; an aroma full of secrets and promises that seems to inhabit all theatres everywhere in one way or another. So we met the costumer, Kay, who was lovely and she did indeed give me a suggestion of who I might call. As is the way that Serendipity always seems to tease me, her referral called her cell phone at exactly that moment. I love New York.

Kissing Meredith Lucio I saw
Kissing Meredith Lucio
I saw a really cute movie last weekend...Kissing Jessica Stein. Basically this girl gets so fed up with the shortcomings of men that she decides to try dating women...despite her tendency to be straight. It's an intriguing concept I thought I would write about if for no other reason than to raise my mother's eyebrows. I'll say nothing more, other than it is an intriguing concept....

Well, there is nothing like
Well, there is nothing like a spirited debate to get things going. Thanks to Carl and Stepan for their comments. In the end, I am right and Carl is wrong. LOL. That is the beauty of having your own blog.
More MOH
I am still the best MOH ever!!! Last week I had a yen to look up photographers in Austin. The wedding is only four months away and most people book things like the photographer 9 to 12 months in advance. I was a little daunted at first- the first nine photographers I called were all booked except for one. In the end I managed to find 6, SIX photographers in Austin available on October 5, AH AH AH. And one of those was on the original short list that Jenny and Stepan submitted to me. So it looks like we will have a decent, even grand photographer at the wedding. Jenny and Stepan have four interviews this week with Photographers and one last interview with the cake place. So, though we may not be "right on schedule" according to Martha Stewart, we are making alot of progress on the event. I have to say I have sort of enjoyed my small part in putting this shindig together. I wonder if I should be a wedding planner in addition to actress/ voiceover artist/ writer/ promoter/ entreprenuer/ bookkeeper? Hmm. Something to think about, but the business cards are getting a little confusing already.

What Katie Couric has
What Katie Couric has taught me
Katie Couric was on the Rosie O'Donnell today. They were talking about the info that came out this week proving that George Bush's camp were warned about Middle Eastern men taking flight lessons in this country and the threat of a terrorist attack months before September 11. Katie and Rosie seemed content to hold Jr. blameless for his administration's ineptitude. They explained that that it was a mistake, but that people make mistakes. Katie even mentioned the memo written by what she termed a very well respected senior level FBI agent. Rosie mentioned the poor president probably got 80 memoes that day and how difficult it would be for a president to read all of them. Hmm. Well Bill Clinton managed to create a budget surplus, have a bull market during his administration, work towards a peaceful agreement between Israel and Palestine, and have a dalliance with an intern in the process. WHERE WAS ALL THIS FORGIVENESS WHEN BILL MET MONICA????!! So basically I have learned that Americans seem content to have a *&^%ing idiot in office as long as he doesn't cheat on his wife. I learned from Katie Couric that Americans can forgive a man whose administration's ineptitude barred them from possibly stopping the most devastating attack on American soil in history but those same Americans can't forgive a man who had an affair on his wife. Even today, when someone criticizes Republicans, Republican supporters inevitably fall back on the same old anti-Clinton rhetoric. I think it says alot about the effectiveness of their boy when the best offense is making fun of a guy who hasn't been in office for almost a year and a half. You try this experiment. Get into a debate with a Republican. Time how long it takes for them to mention Former President Bill Clinton and his dalliance. It seems the only thing Republicans do have for their boy is excuses.
By the way, this administration doesn't even care to try to prevent terror. They seemed resigned to being hit again and again by Al Queda terrorists. If this administration can't prevent terror LET'S ELECT ONE THAT CAN!!!! As my mom, and her mom, and probably her mom used to say..."Can't never could." If you're not going to even try, GET OUT OF THE WAY. There are plenty of people who think it's important enough to try.

This is no Bull
This is no Bull
The night after our TITC party at Serena, Greg, Scott and I went to the "Thirsty Thursday" hosted by the UT alumni association in NY. Afterwards, Greg and I decided to walk to 9th and 42nd since it was such a nice night. As we were walking down 42nd we stopped at a vendor selling cheap pictures of NYC sights. When I say cheap, I mean cheap. The mattes they came in were okay enough but the pictures looked like they were xeroxed. We couldn't help stopping and looking at his wares though. One caught both my and Greg's eye. It was a color picture of the Bull down on Wall Street. I realized that I had yet to visit the Bull since I lived here. What a travesty as it looked like quite the mighty structure. Since I have stock, I should be visiting the bull a lot more often especially given the sorry state of things since Jr.'s been around. The vendor was very polite but very earnest in his desire to sell me a picture. I kept saying no thank you but the pictures were good. He was very diligent though in his quest to make a deal. As we moved on, I thank him and Greg and I were on our way. The vendor ran after us. As I turned he handed me a picture and said it was a gift for me. I was overwhelmed! Never, NEVER do the vendors give away their product. It was such a surprising thing. My picture of the Bull on Wall Street is currently on the mantel of my living room. Maybe they aren't so cheap after all. A week later I found myself at the Bull at 7am having my pictures taken with my partners at TITC for promotional stuff we may or may not be doing in the future. Seems the bull and I were destined to meet.
TITC Photo Shoot
The partners and I decided to have some photos taken around NYC so that we would have them for business plans and such. So we enlisted Harrison a friend of Scott's who is also a photographer to help us out. Shoot day came around and we met at the Bull at 6:30 a.m. It was early!!! Seven hours later and we had been to Soho, Chinatown, and Central Park. It was a blast but I was exhausted. I have seen some of the digitals of the day and they look promising. We are still looking to hear from Harrison about the pictures from the SLR. If any of them are good I will post a few.
In an eery but unrelated note, a guy I used to date got married this weekend. His last name is Bull. And that's no bull

Hippy Hollow Last weekend
Hippy Hollow
Last weekend when I was in Austin I went to Hippy Hollow for an open water swim with Meredith O, mom and Jenny. I have heard about Hippy Hollow for years and this is the first time I have actually had occasion to go. It was fun. Whilst I maintained a modicum of modesty the entire visit, I saw plenty of people "lettin it all hang out". They were nekkid!!! Interestingly enough there are mainly men who do the nude sunbathing. But then I understand that Hippy Hollow has a core gay following so maybe we were on the gay beaches or something. I have no idea. In a weird way it was relaxing to be around people who were so relaxed. But what can I say, I still am and I fear I will always be a prude!!

It's more than just
It's more than just the Cheese
Two weekends ago I got to visit the thriving metropolis of LaCrosse, WI. My friend Jim wrote the music for a musical based on Those that Play the Clowns. Oddly enough, my friend Lisa was in this play in high school. I know this because I competed against her and Trinity HS when I did Tom Jones with Richland HS and two of my partners at TITC. Those were the days!! Anyway, LaCrosse was actually a beautiful town and a much needed getaway from the drudgeries of real life. My hotel was just off the Mississippi River so I got to go jogging by "Old Man River" one morning and snuck a brief writing respite the next. And there was cheese!! Honestly, I have now tasted the cheese that I brought back home with me and I don't see what the big deal is. New York Cheese tastes just as good if you ask me. But the river was beautiful. The town was lovely and the musical was great. I am so impressed with the work my friend Jim put into this musical. It was such a thrill to see it onstage and produced. I think it was a thrill for the members of the community theatre that produced it too. I hope I get to see it again somewhere else soon.
Jim, whose been in Germany for the last 7 weeks was also in LaCrosse. I only wish I could have spent more time with him. But he is one of the authors of this premiere musical and he had alot of friends supporting him in LaCrosse. So I will see him in June when he gets back. Miss you Jim!!

A Naughty Book catches up
A Naughty Book catches up with me
A few years ago...I may have been in High School...I found a book (or someone gave it to me) called The Harrad Experiment. It's basically about a college in the 60s that has an alternative perspective on sexuality. There are gym classes nude. Coed dorm rooms and more. At the time I read the book, I found it quite titillating though by today's standards it's mostly campy, silly, and tame. The subject matter of the book was more than a little intriguing. Especially to the young, proper Catholic girl that I once was. It was an enjoyable, intriguing and licentious read. Well, lo and behold they made a movie!! I happened to cross its path at my favorite used cd store and had to have it! I plunked down my $5 (they actually made a DVD of this movie) and walked out the proud owner of the movie starring a barely post-pubescent Don Johnson, some unknowns, and Tippi Hedren. The movie is a hoot. It is complete schtick but fun nonetheless.

Goodbye Ally I watched the
Goodbye Ally
I watched the last episode of Ally McBeal tonight and I must admit, I am a little depressed. Not necessarily that the show is ending..but necessarily because the show is ending. In the last year, at least, the writing had suffered dramatically. Ally was less of a quirky romantically notioned girl and more of a really depressed and whiny person. When it was first announced that the show was canceled there was nary a whimper from the cast or the production company. I don't think they were too upset that the show was over. Honestly, I think that most of those people were ready to move on. Try something different. Good for them. But you get the feeling that the characters have all died and that world is gone forever. The X-files is gone too. Now I stopped watching the X-files a few years ago. The story had just run out...just like the story for Ally McBeal seemed to have run out. I have to say with Ally I really enjoyed how far they took the fantasy. I loved that anything could happen. I hope David E. Kelly finds another place for that original quirkiness. I am actually happy that this is one less thing I am tempted to watch. And there is nothing to take its place. TV is the devil.
That said, Jenny don't forget to tape Buffy for me as I am taping 24. Damn. TV is the devil.

Blasted Blogger!! I noticed when
Blasted Blogger!! I noticed when I made the last entry that I had an entry that never made it on the website but was waiting patiently in blogger. When I posted the last entry the final entry of my April 28 blog showed up in addition to my last entry. Then I posted another entry and lost it!! Fortunately I remember most of what I said so here goes...second verse, same as the first.
MOH Pro
I may write a book on being the best MOH ever!!! Last weekend I took an impromptu trip to Texas to help my sister do stuff for her wedding on October 5. My sister is a very laidback person. Nothing ever REALLY bothers her. Her intended is much the same. They are both like to two peas in a uniquely decorated pod with painted walls if my sister has anything to say about it. Normally this is a good thing. Planning a wedding leaves a bit of a challenge though. I know they both have very distinctive ideas about what they want their wedding to be. It is most likely the drudgery of the groundwork that keeps getting in the way. Enter their anal retentive maid of honor/sister/future s-i-l to the rescue. I must say I had fun helping with some of this stuff. A wedding is really like a big musical production where you get to be the director and star! When I got back to NYC on Sunday I was exhausted though. While in Austin we chose the Bridesmaids color (dark chocolate) with the other two Bridesmaids, picked a possible fabric, tried on styles of dresses, reserved blocks of rooms for out of town guests, sampled wedding cakes and bakeries, came up with an idea for the invitations, and tried out a potential site for the rehearsal dinner. I even have an idea for the design of my dress.
