To the Democratic National Committee

I am a frustrated democrat. I just saw the Virginia governor's counterstatement to the State of the Union. A more wooden, canned, non-organic speech I have not seen. He seemed nervous and disengenuous. This election and future elections are not about parties. I would say the Republican party has been hijacked by knee-jerk, fiscally irresponsible, dishonest people. George Bush has made a career out of saying one thing and doing another. He boldly calls for the repression of discourse and compromise under the guise of a call for "civility". He speaks of the quest for Freedom and Democracy while surreptitiously and actively supressing them in "Back-alley" wire-tapping like a common criminal.

What are all these Democrats afraid of? You must stand up! If not for your party, then how about for your country? Parry those false calls for "civility" with louder calls for honesty and truth.

Americans deserve no less be they Democrat or Republican.

Too Soon

I just saw a preview of a TV movie about the flight that was downed in Philadelphia on 9-11.

I'm just not ready.

The View from Here

Wednesday at "The View" was a jolly good time. I invited my friend "Piper" whom I'd met at an event I'd put together for my former company. She's a Texan who has moved in the last six months to the Big C so she was really excited to have the television audience experience. Anthony Hamilton and Daniel Dae Kim from the television show "Lost" were the guest.

Pre-show

It seems that alot of people in the audience this day were veterans of studio audiences. So many people in line with us had been to see "Tony Danza". Apparently, he has a lovely waiting experience. There's a little cafeteria with tables to wait before the show starts. "View" members were left to stand about for the hour or so it took to get into the studio.

I did have a really good time talking to my fellow audience members. I spoke at length with a gentleman who got tickets for his wife. (Her name is Sharon; I don't know what his name is.) He had served in the first Gulf War and now owned his own security firm that had contracts with Halliburton and other companies doing business there. We spoke a bit about the war and politics and I must say he had a perspective which never occurred to me before our conversation. With regard to the war in Iraq, one of the most overwhelming feelings were those of frustration and regret that they weren't allowed to finish the job 15 years ago in the first war. I can see his point. He and his comrades put themselves in danger and spent much time and effort to address the issues with Saddam Hussein only to be faced with them again not 15 years later. The other thing he said which really resonated with me was how offended he is that there are people in our country who don't take the time to vote. He risked his life in service to the principle that we all have a right to be a voice in government. Say what you will about economics of war, and big oil. I myself have a few things to say about the corrupt miscreants that seem to be running Capitol Hill. The pampered men in their comfortable business suits playing "cowboys and Indians" start and maintain wars for different reasons than the soldiers who actually risk their lives. Our boys (and girls) in blue go (if they've not been near-conscripted by the National Reserve) in the name of Democracy. I myself have family members with good "christian" values who admit to avoiding the polls on Voting Day. If you don't vote, I urge you to reconsider your reluctance. Whether you like one guy or another or hate them all, it's an insult to those who are always first to protect you and your family. Vote!

The Gals of the View

The ladies of the View and Bill the producer were all lovely people. Throughout the commercial breaks and for a bit at the beginning of the show all of the ladies (even Barbara!) made it a point to spend time with various sections of the audience. Piper and I had great seats in the front of the mid-section. I met Barbara Walters and Bill. I was in the process of shaking Meredith Viera's hand (Meredith's have to stick together!) when the director began frantically calling her. She had almost missed her cue. I almost made Meredith Viera late for meeting Anthony Hamilton. Oops.

I've never really been a fan of Star Jones or Elizabeth Hasselbeck. I find Star to be a bit false sometimes. But she did lose all that weight and I can attest that is a difficult thing to do. Elizabeth H. is at most times just an idiot. When discussing the Abramoff scandal, she seemed to be unconcerned with the ethics or morality of it all and I couldn't help thinking about how she would feel if Bill Clinton committed the same atrocities in his Presidency. How completely horrifying it is to think that people are more interested in a President's ethics in love and sex rather than their ethics in government. She's so indoctrinated; a Stepford Republican. She also misused the word "convolluted."

Barbara Walters is fascinating and lovely as is Meredith V. Joy Behar is so naturally funny. It's a pleasure to hear what she has to say.

The Guests

There really isn't too much to say about the guests. Everything happens so quickly it's hard to really feel like you've learned anything or experienced in any way who they are. Anthony Hamilton has such a gorgeous melifluous voice I imagine he could talk the desperate off of ledges toward safer ground. Daniel Dae Kim seemed nice. His parents were in the audience which was really cute. His father got up and danced with the other audience members at the beginning of the taping.

So that was my View Experience. I had a great time and it was a nice respite from the work-a-day world. I have to admit I'm curious about Tony Danza...but he's in Brooklyn and that is a long, long way for me at 8 in the morning.

A different point of View

I wonder what Barbara, Joy, Meredith, and even Star and Elizabeth might have to say about this weird out-of-synchness bubble in which I've been living. Maybe I'll get a chance to ask them on Wednesday becuase...I've got tickets to The View!

BTW, I've got an extra ticket so who wants to come?

Is Mercury in Retrograde?!?

Because the last two days have been completely f'ed up. I knew I was in for a day when early yesterday morning as I hopped out of the shower....

My World Collapsed

Well, not so much as collapsed as came crashing to the ground. One of the things I inherited from my English ex-Boyfriend was a glass globe which had within it an entire ecosystem. It was given to him as a gift but he didn't want to traipse it around the US and then back to England. I loved my tiny universe. There was water, some moss (probably too much sunlight from when E-exB had it), and a little bitty shrimp. It was on what I thought was a pretty sturdy windowsill but alas, some giant gusts of wind pushed the window out (it's connected at the top and opens up and out at the bottom) and my little world went crashing down.

So there I was buck naked and desperately trying get myself together so I could make it to my client's by 10am as I had resolved to do. There was glass, dirt, mud, and a tiny little shrimp (um, redundant!)gasping for breath in the big, unchartered territory that was my dining area.

I couldn't leave it for later as my other charge, the regal, GSD guard dog I found on Petfinder 3 years ago would most certainly get into and possibly hurt her paws or worse, decide she had a taste for seafood. I vacuumed it all up while thinking about the nature of God being power, control and knowledge over other beings and wondered what would happen if our God accidentally put the earth in a place where it might tip off it's windowsill. Then after that....

Inhospitable Evitations

I've used Evite for years and have truly loved using it. The ads aren't too intrusive and I do really enjoy the little extras like learning my friends' favorite restaurants. I'm helping put together an event for a show I'm co-producing and all of the sudden EVITE erases and cancels the entire event. People have already RSVP'd. I have no idea how this snafu transpired...well, I do have a thought which includes the dastardly deeds of those who have already proven to be nefarious. But I'm not sure, so it's most likely some weird "mercury's in retrograde", glitch in the system, snafu at Evite. After much hemming, hawing, quickfixes that didn't fix, and baying at the moon I sent a good old-fashioned email. I think I managed to make sure that everyone who had already rsvp'd had access to the info and it sounds like people are interested. I had a great time at the previous fundraiser they did in December and I know my friends will enjoy it just as much as I did/will.

This time I managed to put together some pretty neat raffle prizes too. Hopefully we'll be able to pay for this bad boy! Finally....

He's Just Not That In to Me

Last week I had a lovely date with a friend of a friend. There was a lovely dinner, good wine, great conversation, a view of the Hudson River and the Empire State Building and more than a few glasses of Champagne. It's the first time I've dated since E-exB and I really enjoyed it. (Incidentally, E-exB, if you're reading this...I was going to tell you if something actually came of it. Read on....) I thought he had a good time too. He asked more than once if we might get together again and I agreed it was a good idea.

I have yet to hear from him again. Now this one can't have swallowed a deadly peanut as well. (Archives: My first date in NYC was a guy named Nick. I'm sure he choked on a peanut and died before he could inject the life-saving Epi pen and pick up the phone to tell me how much he enjoyed my company.)

It's been nine days!! This one wasn't allergic to peanuts at all as far as I know. So I have to admit it...that guy on Oprah said it best...."he's just not...that in to me....."Oh Well.

So in a, *ahem*, nutshell, that's been my few days. Everything just seems a little skewed. A very sweet friend called after she got my 3rd email about the party to give support and encouragement. I told her about this weirdness that seems to surround me like a clunky, clumsy mist. She said she found that the moments when things are completely out of whack usually immediately preclude the moment when things fall into perfect place. *BREATH* That makes me feel better. Truthfully there are so many good things going on right now: the show I'm helping produce, the podcasting, one really intriguing business opportunity, the impending resolution of my court battle with my nefarious former business partners. So many pieces of this ever-entertaining puzzle just waiting to fall into place.
